Mickey was Coach of the South African National Team (Proteas) from 2005 to 2010 and was one of the country’s longest serving and most successful coaches. In 2008 Mickey became the first South African coach to guide his team to a test series win in Australia and England. In 12 tours to Australia, spanning almost a century, South Africa had never managed to win a test series “down under” but Mickey and the team overcame incredible odds to take out the series and as a result became the top ranked team in Test cricket. Soon after they also became the top-ranked ODI team.
He later left South Africa with his family to set up home in Perth as Coach of Western Australian Cricket (Western Warriors) at the WACA Ground. After only 18 months in the role he was offered the position of National Coach of the Australian cricket team and created history when he became the first non-Australian to hold the position. He coached the Australian team from 2011 to 2013. He is currently Director of Cricket at Christ Church Grammar School, Perth where he also runs his own academy, is a TV/radio cricket commentator and coaches Jamaica in the Caribbean Premier League.

A small snapshot of the excellent facilities Christ Church Grammar School has to offer.
“Mickey tried to create an environment in which we could focus all our energy on scoring runs and taking wickets for the team. The result was we enjoyed the greatest year in South African cricket history in 2008 and rose to the number one ranking in both test and one day cricket. We won Test series in both England and Australia, achievements I will cherish to the grave. And I don’t believe they would have been possible without Mickey. I gave him my man-of-the-match medal after we won the test series against England with the victory at Edgbaston. I played probably my best innings in that game, so felt it appropriate that I could thank him with a special souvenir. That’s how much he meant to me – to all of us.” – Graeme Smith. Captain, South African Cricket Team.
“Training with Mickey, a hugely experienced international coach, at the facilities at Christ Church Grammar School was without doubt the catalyst to my understanding what it takes to train like a professional player. I can’t speak highly enough of the work I have done in Perth with Mickey, professional, bloody hard work and just what I needed before the pre-season.” – Stevie Eskinazi, Middlesex County Cricket Club
“It’s not often you get an opportunity to work with someone who has had the success Mickey has had at the highest level. His knowledge of what it takes to be the very best along with the facilities he has at his disposal, makes a perfect environment for elite performance training.” – Laurie Evans. Warwickshire County Cricket Club.
